Chinese pilot Muzi flew from the South Col of Everest (8,000m)
It’s a 18 pages article ,about the climbing and flying details, and some paragliding history especially the flights from Everest, and how Muzi got the permit to take off from South col. Thank Pierre Carter for providing information,Pierre took off from South Col last year,he is the first pilot to get the permit from Nepalese authorities to take off from Everest (not allowed to take off higher than south col). Sano Babu Sunuwar (The BABU Adventures International Paragliding School)was authorized to evaluate the pilots ‘ ability ,Muzi and Pierre both passed the examinations . Babu is a born adventurer, he took off from the top of Everest with Lakpa Tsering Sherpa in 2011,then hiked and kayakied to the sea at the Bay of Bengal. There is a book about this great adventure. ( the title of the book is Flying Off Everest :A Journey from the Summit to the Sea) Muzi didn’t summit, the 1st try, they gave up due to the strong wind ,and the 2 nd try,his guide Gelje Sherpa (the youngest climber to summit K2 in winter ) saw a climber in danger, and needed rescue,so they gave up again. Muzi said Gelje is a hero. In the article,I also mentioned Hunza,Pakistan and Bir Bling ,India. What I am trying to do is to promote the development of paragliding in Tibet, and hope one day,it will be open to the pilots around the world who want to come to China to explore the Himalayas. There are two photos in the article that are not related to the flight of Everest. Thank Michel Ferrer (editor of parapente+)for telling me the history of paragliding and sending me the photos . Dieter Strasilla and Andrea Kuhn ,the pioneers of our sport, they were unknown in China paragliding community until I wrote about them in my articles which published online. When the magazine asked me for two old photos of flying from Everest, I said it’s difficult to contact the pilots to get the authorization for using their photos…instead I asked Andrea ‘s permission to publish these two photos. More and more magazines are shifting their focus from print magazine to new media. I wanted to take this opportunity to see their names in the Chinese print magazine.
