Kössen Paragliding Testival 2026 Gets Underway in Austria

The legendary Austrian paragliding destination of Kössen is hosting its famous Paragliding Testival from 4 to 7 June 2026. With dozens of manufacturers attending and favorable weather conditions forecast for most days, it’s the perfect opportunity for pilots to test the latest wings, harnesses, and accessories.

“There’s no other place in Europe like it,” says event organizer Leo Dagn, who owns the Fly Kössen flight school. “The landing area is the size of a football field, you can just walk over, hop on a lift and do several rounds a day. Acro pilots do 14 or 15 flights a day. For comparing wings from different brands, it’s a really great spot.”

The weather outlook is promising, with flyable conditions expected on Thursday, a 50% chance on Friday, and good flying conditions predicted for Saturday and Sunday morning. So far, 27 manufacturers and 450 pilots have registered for the event. While registration was full for the first few days, spaces remain open on Sunday.

Fly Kössen holds the distinction of being the oldest flying school in Europe and was the first host of the Hang Gliding World Championships back in 1976. The venue features a spacious grassy takeoff next to the lift, surrounded by mountains with reliable thermals that can take pilots to cloudbase. Two large landing fields are available, with the main one situated next to the school’s popular Pilot Bar, which serves coffee, organic soft drinks, beer, and food ranging from curries to local Austrian bratwurst.

The Testival was originally established by Sepp Himberger, who previously ran the flying school. This marks the first year that Leo Dagn has taken over the organization. “I’m really looking forward to welcoming everyone,” he says. “It’s going to be great.”
