Gin launch the Explorer 3 – a new high-performance EN-B wing

Gin Gliders have taken the wraps off the Explorer 3, a ground-up redesign of their popular high-B wing aimed squarely at cross-country pilots who want to convert hours in the air into real distance.
Rather than simply tweaking the previous generation, the Korean manufacturer has rebuilt the glider from the inside out. A brand-new aerofoil sits at the heart of the design, and Gin says it delivers extra glide, more speed and improved efficiency while keeping the forgiving, intuitive character that has always defined the Explorer line. The planform, internal structure, wingtips and line layout have all been reworked to create what the company is calling a new generation of the wing.
The result, they say, remains easy to place precisely in the air yet feels calmer and more planted when the sky gets rough. In their design notes, Gin explain that the geometry has shifted toward the stable end of the aerodynamic spectrum, giving the profile a stronger natural tendency to hold its attitude without constant pilot correction. In practice, that should mean a wing that pitches more quietly in turbulent air and recovers more progressively if it is disturbed.
One familiar Gin hallmark returns on the leading edge: the wave-inspired technology borrowed from the tubercles on a humpback whale’s fins. Gin claim it lifts efficiency at high angles of attack, trims sink at lower speeds and makes the stall behave more gently, while also adding pitch stability and spanwise solidity so the wing stays efficient in thermals and composed in active conditions.
The Explorer 3 is built around a rear-riser control system and carries an aspect ratio of 5.9. In the smallest size it weighs just 3.55 kg, and the wing is offered in five sizes spanning 60 kg through to 115 kg take-off weight.

A wing of this class deserves careful handling on the ground, and protecting that delicate leading edge between flights is where a well-designed Concertina Bag earns its place in any pilot’s kit. Long XC days also mean staying hydrated, so many pilots now clip a Your Journey Bottle to their harness for the climb.
