Niviuk Peak 7 unveiled: refined EN-D two-liner gains winglets

Niviuk used this year’s Coupe Icare to reveal the Peak 7, the newest chapter in their flagship EN-D competition wing. Aimed at experienced cross-country and race pilots, the wing is built to cover long distances “with maximum efficiency” while feeling more comfortable and less demanding than the model it replaces.

The Peak 7 is a high-performance two-liner with an aspect ratio of 6.9. Niviuk says its behaviour stays composed even with the speed bar fully pressed, giving pilots the confidence to fly fast. A first for the series: winglets. The company explains that the addition reduces roll and tightens stability in turbulent air, letting the wing trace a cleaner, more efficient line and lifting both glide and overall performance.

Speaking at the festival, test pilot and designer Tim Rochas told us the team raised the maximum speed and general performance with a new aerofoil, while also improving pitch stability. Glide — particularly at high speed — was another priority. Niviuk reports that the wing conserves energy more effectively and performs better through transitions, supplying the feedback pilots need to choose the best lines and hold their planned route.

Handling has been sharpened as well. Brake response is described as more direct and immediate, with the wing turning exactly where the pilot points it and delivering a natural, precise feel.

The Peak 7 will come in five sizes — 20, 21, 23, 24 and 25 — supporting a maximum takeoff weight of 125 kg, with three colour combinations on offer.

Anyone investing in a top-end glider like this will want to look after it in transit. A dedicated concertina bag keeps the span folded safely and protects the leading edge from creasing on the road. For pilots who travel light and repack quickly between flights, a fast packing bag can shave valuable minutes off the turnaround at a race or hike-and-fly start.
