BGD Kiss 2: an ultralight mountain wing with a built-in parakite mode

BGD has unveiled the Kiss 2, a featherweight mountain wing that hides a trick up its sleeve: a switchable parakite mode. Offered in four sizes from 13 to 22 m² flat, with a flat aspect ratio of 4.7 and a starting weight of just 1.8 kg, it is squarely aimed at pilots who want one wing for both hike-and-fly and strong-wind days.

Certification reflects that dual nature. Size 16 is EN/LTF-A up to 80 kg and EN/LTF-B to 90 kg, while size 19 is EN-A for pilots from 55 to 95 kg; sizes 13 and 22 are listed with certification pending. Crucially, the EN/LTF rating applies only in paragliding mode — in parakite mode BGD has run internal folding tests, but certification manoeuvres cannot be performed on parakite risers.

The headline feature is the mode change. In PK configuration the pilot flies the full speed range on the brakes rather than the speed bar, an advantage with skis, crampons or after a strong-wind takeoff. Team pilot Tyr, flying size 16 in Iceland, described turning thermals in PG mode in mild air and flicking to PK mode when the wind built — letting him keep flying where a conventional wing would have grounded him. BGD is clear that this is “a paraglider with expanded possibilities” rather than a dedicated parakite, and advises learning the PK mode progressively in laminar conditions.

Construction is all about travel: Dominico D10 at 25 g/m², unsheathed Edelrid Magix Pro Dry lines and Porcher Skytex 27 g/m², with the whole package fitting a hand-luggage bag. It joins a wider industry shift toward hybrid wings — think the PHI ROWDY parakite — though the Kiss 2 stays a mountain paraglider first, with PK as a bonus.

A wing this light deserves careful storage: a Concertina Bag protects the leading edge, a Fast Pack Bag keeps it compact for the flight home, and a Your Journey Bottle keeps you going on long alpine days.
