Gin Issues Safety Notice for Genie Race 5 Rescue Handles

Gin has issued a safety notice regarding a potential manufacturing defect found in a limited number of Genie Race 5 rescue handles during an internal quality inspection.

The issue relates to the stitching that secures the plastic paracord to the rescue handle. In some units, this stitching may loosen or separate over time, which could cause the paracord to shift and become caught around the retaining pin during deployment.

“Should this occur, the paracord may slide and become trapped around the retaining pin when the rescue is deployed,” Gin stated in their notice. “This could prevent the rescue parachute from opening correctly.”

The defect does not affect all Genie Race 5 handles — only a specific production batch is implicated. Gin has urged pilots in possession of the affected units to stop flying immediately and contact their authorized Gin dealer for inspection and replacement. Dealers have been briefed on the issue and are equipped to carry out the necessary checks.

Pilots are advised not to attempt self-inspection. Instead, they should arrange for their gear to be examined by a qualified professional at the earliest opportunity.

Safety should always come first. Regular inspection of rescue handles and deployment systems is an essential part of pre-flight checks for every paraglider pilot.

For pilots looking to build confidence with rescue procedures before heading to the launch site, a Harness Simulator provides a safe environment to practice handle location, deployment sequence, and body positioning under real conditions.
