Independence Pioneer 4: The Wing That Grows with Your Flying

Independence has launched the Pioneer 4, a beginner-friendly paraglider wing with a distinctive party trick: it can be reconfigured from an EN-A to an EN-B using a simple speed-bar adjustment.
First shown at last year’s Coupe Icare, the Pioneer 4 addresses a common challenge for newly qualified pilots — deciding when and how to step up to a higher-performance wing. Rather than buying two separate gliders, the Pioneer 4 allows pilots to start in a comfortable EN-A configuration and progress to the EN-B setup as their skills and confidence develop.
The transition between configurations is handled via a speed-limiter system that controls accelerator travel. When rigged as EN-A, the wing offers a relaxed, confidence-building feel. Switching to the EN-B setting unlocks a more dynamic flight experience and improved glide performance.
The wing also features mini-ribs along the trailing edge for improved aerodynamics, a cleanly finished trailing edge designed to boost both glide and speed, and a construction using PU-coated fabric on the inner surface and lightweight 20D silicone-coated fabric on the outside for durability.
Colour-coded risers make pre-launch sorting straightforward — a thoughtful detail for pilots who are still building muscle memory at the hill.
The Pioneer 4 is available in four sizes covering a broad weight range.
For new pilots investing in their first dedicated flying wing, having the right gear at every stage of progression matters. A Harness Simulator is an excellent training companion, allowing new pilots to practice ground handling and in-flight inputs before reaching the launch site.
Harness Simulator — practice, progress, fly with confidence.
