FAI Invites the World to the First International Day of Air Sports

The Fédération Aéronautique Internationale (FAI) is inviting the flying world to take part in the very first International Day of Air Sports, set for 14 October 2026.
Led by the World Air Sports Federation, this new annual celebration aims to bring air-sports enthusiasts together globally to “showcase the excitement, diversity and accessibility of flying”. Activities will centre on 14 October, with events, demonstrations and digital content designed to reach audiences well beyond the current community. The FAI will also run a dedicated campaign alongside the 120th FAI General Conference in Lausanne, Switzerland that same week.
Pilots and clubs are encouraged to organise their own gatherings and spread the word using #InternationalDayofAirSports and #AirSportsDay. Suggestions include local demonstrations and exhibitions, open days with workshops and presentations, school and youth activities, club meet-ups and online events.
The hope, the FAI says, is for members and partners to “share their passion and open the skies to new audiences”. Founded in 1905, the non-governmental, non-profit body ratifies world and continental records, coordinates international competitions and sets the rules that govern paragliding and hang-gliding – including the Sporting Code under which the sport competes.
Whether you are planning a club open day or heading out for a flying session of your own, keep a Your Journey Bottle close at hand – staying hydrated makes a long day in the air far more enjoyable.
Want to get involved? Grab your Your Journey Bottle and join a local event this October – every pilot can help open the skies to new faces.
